I believe that art has the power to heal, inspire, and transform. My goal as an artist is to create work that not only looks beautiful, but also resonates with the viewer on a deeper level.
Jim Irvine is a pencil artist who was born in Lennoxtown, Dunbartonshire. He is currently based and living in East Kilbride, Glasgow.
Other than some time spent at evening classes in the Glasgow School of Art back in the 70s, he is a self-taught artist.
His main artistic inspiration comes from Hyperrealism Art and following some of the talented artists of this genre, he is working towards mastering this style using the following mediums: Charcoal, Graphite, Carbon and Polychromos Pencils.
Currently his work does not belong in any collections as his Jim Irvine Portraits4you is a small hobby type business facilitating commission artworks.
Looking to the future Jim would like to get involved with an art collective, society or organisation to help further his art journey with like-minded people.
I use A3 Smooth-Heavyweight cartridge paper as I love the texture the tooth of this paper gives to my art and the tonal values I can achieve blending with my selection of pencils. I work to this size as it is easy to post using artists cardboard tubes for any commissions I earn.
I make this work because I am excited about portraiture, I am striving towards a hyperrealism genre and love creating a subject’s portrait to as near a photographic image as possible while still allowing my viewers to recognise it is a sketch. I am working on a “Celebrity Series” of portraits as these are instantly identifiable and enable the observer to determine the level of my craft. I also run my small hobby type business jimirvineportraits4you, this helps me achieve a steady flow of commissions.
